About Membership in the GTYC
The Grand Traverse Yacht Club is interested in recruiting members who are committed to our mission of promoting, protecting and encouraging boating and it's environment. Applications for membership must be sponsored by a current member and submitted to the membership committee. If you do not have a sponsor, contact the membership chair who will arrange for an interview and assign a sponsor. Upon approval by the Board of Directors, a membership number and card will be issued by the Club Secretary. Membership in the Club is open to anyone who is at least eighteen (18) years old.
Membership Categories:
Full Voting Membership: Mooring rental, dry-sailing, small-boat & dinghy storage, and a key to the clubhouse are additional privileges of membership that are available only to this class. Regular members receive one vote per membership in Club elections. Limited to 150. This class of membership requires payment of a Building Fee.
Social Membership: Anyone who has not been a member of the Club may join and pay 60% of the regular dues. Limited to two (2) years unless the Full Voting Memberships are full. The Full Voting Members Initiation Fee is waived for Social Members in good standing. Membership in this category includes use of the club for all scheduled social functions, reduced fees for certain club functions and first rights to be upgraded to Full Voting Membership when openings in that category occur.
Junior Membership: Anyone between the age of eighteen (18) and twenty-four (24) may join and pay 60% of the regular dues. Upon reaching the age of twenty-four (24), Junior Members are required to become Full Voting Members, if available, or Social Members otherwise. The Regular Member Initiation Fee is waived for Junior Members in good standing.

Volunteering is a long GTYC tradition
As a not-for-profit organization, the GTYC relies on volunteers to keep fees affordable and to improve programs and operations. When you apply for membership, we ask you to commit to contributing your interests and talents to the mission of the club. Volunteering is also a good way to quickly get to know other members.
Programs
The GTYC welcomes boaters of all types. “It's Wednesday Night!” Race Program offers fun for all levels of sailors from May through September. On weekends, regattas, long distance, and solo races are held. The GTYC also regularly hosts National and Regional Regattas for various classes of sailboats. Our Cruising Fleet consists of powerboats as well as sailboats. The Cruising fleet meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month for dinner and a presentation. The club is open most Wednesday and Friday nights for social programs year-round.
Facilities
The GTYC facilities include a spacious dining area, friendly bar, bayside patio, private beach, showers, a children's playroom and a Mezzanine overlooking Grand Traverse Bay. The club offers dry storage for trailerable boats and dinghies. On the water, the GTYC has launch ramp and moorings for 17 boats. The Club is also available to members for private functions. See the club rental page.
Membership Application
There is normally a waiting list for GTYC membership. We encourage all prospective members to use our on-line application. We collect certain information in part to better plan for and organize appropriate activities for adults and families. Please take special care with the biography section of the application as it provides the membership committee information about the talents and interests you bring to the club. When vacancies become available (usually in May of each year), you will be contacted by a member of the Membership Committee.
Dues Payment
No payment is due at time of application. You will be advised of fees due when accepted for membership.
