Connecting the club's biggest event with the heart of the Northern Michigan summer, the 2016 Annual Hound Dog Regatta to August 13, 14, & 16. In addition to two days of buoy racing on West Grand Traverse Bay, the club has added new happenings and upgraded old favorites to fill a busy summer weekend.

Freshwater Cup Division

PHRF handicap and One-Design racing on the blue course with windward/leeward, triangles, and others at the PROs discretion. Starts will be divided by size and one-design classes.

Grand Touring Division

PHRF handicap racing, including a JAM division, on the yellow course for the Park Place Trophy. Races will feature longer legs over a range of points of sail to tour the bay. Two races will be sailed on Saturday, one on Sunday.

Interlakes & Friends

This year our own Interlake fleet joins the fun, hosting an all-comers afternoon of races for symmetrical rigged centerboard boats. Racing on Saturday only, the Interlakes & Friends will follow the big boats on a shortened windward-leeward course and will be scored with the Portsmouth handicap system.

Mount Gay Rum Party Saturday Night

The high point of the Grand Traverse Yacht Club summer comes the Saturday night of August 13th with the Mount Gay Rum Party and Hound Dog Regatta Dinner. Picking up steam after racing ends on Saturday afternoon, dinner will be a fantastic barbeque followed by live music, dancing, and a night of surprises.

Remember, the Hound Dog party isn't just for racers -- this is a party for the whole club! Not only will their be dinner, music, great Mount Gay specials, but the legendary Raingutter Regatta and the Daily Awards with the return of the "Daily Jerky"! This is your club -- this is your biggest summer party!

The Dog Park Dinghy Derby on Hound Dog Friday

For the third year, our Traverse Area High School Sailing Teams challenge our small boat (and would-be small boat) sailors to prove their mettle in a unique bracket style 420 regatta sailed on the Friday evening of the Hound Dog Regatta. With races starting at 5:30, prospective skipper's can hire a 420 for the evening and if needed, hire a 420 veteran helmsman or crew to sail with them. For  big enough donation, you can rent the whole package and root your franchise on from shore! Entrants are guaranteed three races, with a bracket to determine the champion. All proceeds benefit the Traverse Area High School Sailing Teams.

Champagne Sunday Afternoon Awards

Stick around for "apres-sail" with awards for the winners, drink and food specials, and the best afternoon of the Up North summer.
